Based in Kelham Island, the heartland of Sheffield’s real-ale scene, The Sheffield Brewery Co. was one of the first independent breweries to arrive in the city’s now booming beer industry back in 2006.
With more than 20 independent breweries in Sheffield, The Sheffield Brewery came to Grey Matter to see how we could help them to stand out in a competitive market.
Our creative team worked with the brewery to explore the brand, their values and their unique selling points, in order to translate this into a fresh, contemporary visual identity. We analysed competitors, customer groups and the venues in which the Brewery wanted its beers to be sold. This helped us to create a new brand image that retained The Sheffield Brewery’s heritage and personality, but also elevated it amongst its contemporaries, so that visual marketing such as bottle labels and beer pumps, would stand out on a busy bar.
When The Sheffield Brewery Co. approached Grey Matter, they weren’t able to sell products online, having just a simple information style site. Our digital team completely transformed The Sheffield Brewery’s online presence, building a fully responsive e-commerce website, featuring stunning new photography, branding, written content and sales functionality.
The work we undertook meant that The Sheffield Brewery is able to continue providing its award-winning beers to customers in Sheffield and beyond, even throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, where restriction have forced the brewery to be agile in the way they sell and supply their beers.
The Sheffield Brewery continues to go from strength to strength. Since launching the new brand and website the Brewery have been able to invest in developing its premises, hire more staff and continue to serve great beer!
